A passionate story teller, mezzo-soprano Lucy Evans is dedicated to creating complex characters and nuanced performances in both opera and song.

In the 2023-24 season, Lucy covered Rosina in The Barber of Seville during her time as an Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. She made her OTSL debut as Marie de Medici in a new production of Philip Glass’s Galileo Galilei, and performed scenes from L’Italiana in Algieri (Isabella) and Le Nozze di Figaro (Marcellina) in the company’s Center Stage concert alongside the St. Louis Symphony.

Additionally, she covered the mezzo soloist in Cincinnati Opera’s production of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio, and debuted as Maddalena in Rigoletto with Holy City Arts and Lyric Opera (HALO) in Charleston, South Carolina.

The 2022-23 season included a return to the renowned Apprentice program at the Santa Fe Opera. There, she performed the role of Ninfa (July 29-Aug 16) and La Messaggera (Aug 24) in Monteverdi’s Orfeo with a world premiere orchestration by Nico Muhly in a new production by MacArthur Genius award winner Yuval Sharon. Additionally, she covered the Kitchen Girl in Santa Fe’s production of Rusalka, and appeared as Hansel in a scene from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel during the Apprentice Scenes night.

In the summer of 2022, she made her professional debut at the Santa Fe Opera as Agent 1 in the world premiere of David Henry-Huang’s M. Butterfly. Additional credits include Agrippina (Agrippina), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Mother Goose (The Rake’s Progress), Third Lady (The Magic Flute) and Irene (Handel’s Theodora).

Lucy has appeared as a soloist with CCM’s Vox Antiqua, an ensemble dedicated to medieval and renaissance chant and secular song. Equally passionate about new music, she has participated in workshops with Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works program, singing the role of Madame in Nathaniel Stookey’s Bulrusher and Uta Hagen in Scott Davenport Richards’ Robeson.

She made her professional concert debut with the Albany Symphony Orchestra as the alto soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

Originally from Bellingham, Washington, Lucy is currently in the Artist Diploma program at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM). She received her Master of Music also from CCM, and graduated summa cum laude from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University.

In her free time, Lucy enjoys painting, sculpting Babybel cheese wax masterpieces, writing and hiking.
